Embracing Change: Insights from the Dalai Lama

I am currently re-reading one of my favorite books. The Art of Happiness: A Handbook for Living by His Holiness The Dalai Lama and Howard C. Cutler continues to shine new light on different aspects every time I read it.

Today, I was reading this book from my hospital room. The passages about suffering were particularly helpful. Then I dove into Chapter 12: Bringing About Change. The parallels between organizational change management and how the Dalai Lama describes the process of how humans cope with transition are fascinating.


Change is the only constant in life, a truth universally acknowledged. Yet, despite its inevitability, many of us find ourselves resisting change, clinging to the familiar even when it no longer serves us. In the realm of organizational dynamics, this resistance often manifests during periods of transition, making effective change management essential for navigating such shifts smoothly. The Dalai Lama, spiritual leader and advocate for peace and compassion, offers profound insights into the nature of change and the human capacity to adapt. Drawing from his teachings, we can glean valuable lessons for navigating change management with grace and resilience.
